Training

Extensive and Continuous

Before a direct support professional begins work here at Benchmark Human Services, the new employee must complete these courses and requirements:

  • OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) training
  • HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) training
  • Compliance training
  • Policy and procedure training
  • Environmental safety training
  • Competencies-based training on each individual’s support plan
  • Competencies-based training to demonstrate proficiency in serving individuals with high medical and/or behavioral needs
  • Environmental safety training
  • Company orientation that encompasses standards and processes across Benchmark
  • First Aid and CPR training and certification

Once the “basics” are completed, training is geared toward the specific individual, as outlined in the individual support plan and/or behavior support plan and risk plan.

Benchmark tracks each employee to ensure he or she renews certifications annually, attends monthly training sessions, completes annual training  “refresher” classes and remains current on all plans and changes involving the consumer’s goals, medication and day-to-day activities.
